E3’s 2018 Fortnite Pro-Am a Massive Success

In 2017, the value of the video game market in the United States amounted to $18.4 billion. Since the advent of video games, people have loved gaming. Whether it’s just messing around with siblings on bean bag gaming chairs or playing in high-stakes competitions over the Internet, gamers enjoy playing just about any game on any console.

E-sports have taken the video game market to the next level and the recent E3 Fortnite tournament is an excellent showcase of what’s to come for the future.

Over the past year, Fortnite has become one of the most popular video games of all time. Epic Games has constantly changed the game to bring in gamers by the millions, as well as keep active players engaged and excited about the game. Last month, the company committed more than $100 million into Fortnite tournament price pools and even announced its very first official E-sports event: the Fortnite Pro-Am.

According to engadget, popular streamers and YouTube video gamers teamed up with actors, professional athletes, and musicians at E3 for a 50-team, 100-person battle royal.

Staying true to form, Tyler “Ninja” Blevins, the biggest personalty in competitive E-sports, took first place. Ninja’s partner was EDM DJ Marshmello.

Other pairings in the first ever charity E3 Fortnite tournament were:

• Gotaga and Demetrius Johnson
• Myth and Paul George
• Pokimane and Josh Hart
• Typical Gamer and Vince Staples
• Ali-A and Pete Wentz
• Kitty Plays and Chandler Riggs
• Nickmercs and Andre Drummond
• Nadeshot and Tyron Woodley
• LOLITOFDEZ and Ron Funches

The competition was held in Los Angeles at the Bank of California Stadium. Also, it was live streamed and all the competitors were seated in high-quality gaming setups (not necessarily bean bag gaming chairs, but excellent setups nonetheless).

“We’ll be supporting community organized events, online events, and major organized competitions all over the world, where anyone can participate, and anyone can win,” said a spokesperson for Epic Games. “Fortnite World Cup Qualifiers begin in Fall 2018, and culminate in the first Fortnite World Cup in late 2019. Whether you’re in the competition or watching at home, we want this to be fun for everyone.”
