GoNintendo Review – Sumo Ultimate-Fur Covers

Those of you that have been following GoNintendo since the beginning know that I have a long-running history with the gang at Sumo. We’ve reviewed a few of their products over the years and I always come away impressed. Sumo markets their ‘furniture’ to the gamer crowd, as some of their options make for the perfect place to lounge and get some gaming done. I know some of you guys/gals have picked up a few of their options over the years based on my experience.

While I don’t have a review of a new seat this time around, I do have a look at one of Sumo’s accessories. The company recently put out a line of ‘Ultimate Fur Covers’ that slip over some of their best-selling chairs. It’s simply a zipper-on cover that replaces the one that comes with whatever seating option you buy. It’s for those that want even more comfort out of their already super comfortable purchase.

Sumo was nice enough to send over an Ultimate-Fur Cover for my Sumo Sultan. It’s tan just like the one you see above. Lovely color and all, but how does it feel?! Hit up the link to see what I think.

My old Sumo Sultan cover was a blue suede, which was standard with the chair at the time. It was perfectly fine and held up very well. The chairs in our place see a lot of traffic, especially the Sumo lineup. Everyone comes in, jumps on the chairs, rolls around in them and really loves them. It’s not often you see a giant bean bag-like seating option in someone’s living room!

Well, now that original cover is gone and I’ve switched on the Ultimate-Fur Cover. I actually kind of dreaded putting the cover on, as the Sultan is one heavy sucker. It’s not the easiest to maneuver around, so I knew it would be a two-person job. Even then, I figured to have to do some rough wrestling to get the cover on there. Of course, I picked Mom Brain for the job.

Believe it or not, we got the old cover off and the new cover on in just 10 minutes. We both said that it went a lot quicker and easier than we though. Just unzip the old cover, roll out the bag inside and then throw the new cover around the bag. Slowly work the zipper up and around and you’re good to go! I will say, this job would probably be quite a tough one if it were being done by one person.

I’m sure some of you are worried that this Ultimate-Fur is the real deal, but I assure you, it is not. The website clearly states that the cover is made from 100% Polyester Fiber. No need to worry about a poor woodland creature being stripped of their winter coat to make this baby. It’s fake, but no worries, as it still feels fantastic.

It’s surprising how much of a difference the cover makes. The original cover was quite fine, but this new cover makes the entire Sultan experience different. Everything is much more smooth and flowing. You don’t get as hung-up in the chair when you’re moving around. You kind of slide about, settling into a position easier.

Obviously, I think one of the big reasons people would like to change their covers on their Sumo products has to do with just the look itself. A giant Sumo chair just looks like more fun with the faux fur. It looks more inviting, more fancy! That’s going to be an opinion that differs from person to person, but I think we can all admit that it’s nice to change up the look of our furniture from time to time. These covers are a great way to do that.

What are my complaints about the Ultimate-Fur Cover? The biggest gripe I can offer up is the heat. This cover is going to make you more warm than the other standard cover. That’s a great thing when it comes to be Winter and you want to snuggle up. As for the cover getting too warm in the Summer, I could see that being an issue. You won’t boil up or anything like that, but you’ll definitely get toasty. Maybe if you’re a smaller guy than me, it won’t bother you!

The other, smaller issue is the shedding period. This cover is going to go through a period where some of the fur comes off. It’ll end up getting stuck on your clothing when you’re in the chair. After a week or so of regular use, you should get all the loose fur off and not have to worry about that issue. You could be smart and vacuum the cover before you use it, but I am a dumb man.

What’s the best proof I gave give as my approval of this cover? I swear on the ghost of Buddy the Podcast Dog, the Sumo Sultan is my bed. I sleep there every single night, and have done so since I got the cover. Mom Brain is quite the bed hog, but I don’t mind that one bit when I have the Ultimate-Fur Cover for my Sultan to sleep in. I kid you not, I sleep like a baby and wake up better than I have in any bed. A big pillow like this for a big guy like me just makes so much sense.
