Approximately 155 million Americans play video games regularly. There have been video games that garnered tremendous popularity over the years but one game in particular is completely revolutionizing the gaming sector: Fortnite.
Fortnite is a free game developed by Epic Games. It’s a Battle Royal survival game where players eliminate each other in order to be the last player or squad standing. It’s available on all major consoles, breaking streaming records on Twitch, and even transcending the sports world.
Hundreds of millions of people, from young children to grown adults, are setting up their video game areas in their homes and are playing this game for hours on end. Whether it’s young kids playing with their friends or a working professional setting up some quality gamer bean bag chairs, Fortnite is taking over.
Though this game is rapidly gaining popularity across the U.S., people aren’t just playing it from the comfort of their homes on gamer bean bag chairs, they are playing it all over the place.
Fortnite is now available on smartphones on IOS or Android. The game was already incredibly popular and dominating discussions in schools, but now kids aren’t just talking about the game in between and during class, they are actually playing it.
“There has been a rise in the number of incidents with students walking into classes while playing the games,” said Nick Gutierrez, a high school AP computer science teacher. “They started a match during lunch, or before school, and need to finish the 10 to 15 [minute] long matches. I have noticed in my room students siting next to each other trying to play while pretending to do work.”
Teachers have already been confiscating phones since nearly every child in America is equipped with a smart phone. With Pokemon Go, Snapchat, Instagram, and other games, kids are constantly on their phones in schools, but Fortnite is much more distracting than any other IOS or Android app.
Teachers have even taken to the Internet to complain about Fortnite in schools:
“Fortnite released Fortnite Mobile which means now my middle school students can play the game they never stop talking about at school behind my back on their phones that are nicer than mine,” tweeted one teacher. “What a world.”
If you, your husband or wife, or your kids are obsessed with Fortnite or any other video game, make sure it’s only played in the house and not at school or work. If you want to find high quality gamer bean bag chairs or giant bean chairs, give Sumo Lounge a call right away.
