REVIEW – Sumo Sultan Bean Bag Chair
There is more to the digital and mobile lifestyle than the technology tidbits that we all know and love. If you’re rocking the laptop in the living room, you want a comfortable place where you can sit, chill, and surf the web at your leisure. The same can be said about playing games on the Xbox 360 or just lounging around and doing a whole lot of nothing.
I was pleasantly surprised when I was contacted by a major manufacturer of bean bag chairs if I would like to try out one of their products. I know what you’re thinking. A bean bag chair is a bean bag chair, right? Well, that’s not really the case when it comes to the Sumo Sultan.
Starting with the Features
Sumo Lounge offers a range of bean bag chairs that are meant be both stylish and comfortable. When you order one of these from their website, the bean bag cover is wrapped up separately from the bean bag itself.
Looking at the size of this thing, measuring 54 x 54 x 42 inches, I thought that I was going to have a lot of trouble getting the cover over the bean bag itself. Having gone through many less than pleasant experiences with futon covers, I was wary. However, these concerns were completely unfounded.
Despite its monumental size (over four feet across!), the Sumo Sultan bean bag chair had no trouble slipping into its removable micro suede cover. The zipper goes across the entire length and you can machine wash this cover as needed. The soft cover comes in your choice of brown (as shown), black, khaki, or red.
What I found interesting about these bean bags is that they don’t actually contain any beans at all. You don’t get the hard and bumpy surface that is normally associated with bean bag chairs. Instead, the Sumo Lounge chairs are made with 100% shredded furniture grade urethane foam.

Personally, I found this bean bag chair to be a little too soft. When you fall into sit in it, you really get swallowed up by the chair. This can be quite comfortable for lounging, but I like having a little bit of back support and stiffness to my seats. I did find that I could “bend” the chair and lean it up against the wall though; this helped to give me more of a “chair” experience with the Sumo Sultan.
Conclusion
There’s no denying that Sumo Lounge went to great lengths to offer great quality with the Sumo Sultan bean bag chair. The micro suede cover feels like it is quite tear-resistant and it really feels like a quality product. The 100% shredded furniture grade urethane foam makes for a comfortable seat, but it does lack a definite form.
The product page doesn’t lie. The Sumo Sultan really does boast “unbelievable size and comfort.” If you want to “lounge large” with a massive bean bag chair, this could be for you. The Sumo Sultan is listed at $249 with free shipping.
