My PeerFly Office: Staying Productive

It is really easy to get distracted when you have a lot of things going on and it seems like I constantly have a lot of things going on. Over the past few years I have learned a few tricks that I use to help stay productive. One of the most important things you can do is control your environment. No matter how crazy and busy things get, if you are in a calm environment you are more likely to be productive.
So, I thought I would give you a tour of my PeerFly office and explain things that I control to keep my environment comfortable and productive.
While I’ll admit my office at PeerFly is not always this clean, I do attempt to keep it as clean and uncluttered as possible most of the time. I’ve found that I am much more productive when there are not things scattered all over my desk.
I also started using duel screen monitors when I was in college and haven’t looked back since. Even though I have a 27 inch iMac, I still use my 27 inch duel screen pretty often. For example, I’ll have my email and PeerFly stats open in browsers next to each other on my iMac and my Skype open in my duel screen.
You’ll notice there are no icons on my computer desktop. I keep my screen as clean as my desk. I also rotate wallpapers often. It gives your screen a fresh look and for whatever reason it makes me happy.
I also always keep a notepad next to my computer so I can take notes when I get ideas or want to create a todo. I have found that keeping a physical (written) todo and actually crossing off items as you complete them is one of the best things I can do to keep on task. You should have seen all my papers when I was developing FPTraffic!
Take Breaks!
There have been multiple studies that have shown that taking a break from your work frequently (but obviously not too frequently) is critical to staying productive. I take breaks throughout my day and I’ll usually do one of two things:
1. Relax in my massage chair (the black chair shown above).
2. Lay in my giant bean bag from Sumo Lounge.
I have two bean bags from Sumo Lounge and they are literally the most comfortable chair you will ever sit in. I have a red one at the PeerFly office (shown above) and a giant black one in my home office.
Taking a break and getting away from your work is a great way to let your mind relax. It’s important that you actually get up and walk away from the computer. Taking a break by opening a new browser window and going to Facebook or Twitter is not a break and is counterproductive because more than likely you will waste more time than necessary and not feel relaxed or refreshed.
I also walk to our Anytime Fitness (right across the street from our PeerFly office) every weekday at 3:00pm and go for a run and a light workout. I’ll run a mile or so and do some pushups and crunches. I not only feel really refreshed when I get back to the office, but I’m making myself healthier as well.
One of my favorite things about working at the PeerFly office is that our kitchen is always stocked with everything I need to make it through the day. Our Keurig coffee maker runs pretty much nonstop throughout the day and everyday I have two cups of coffee. We also keep it stocked with a ton of water, Gatorade, and soda.
Create a comfortable work environment for yourself and you will see a productivity increase. Increase your productivity and increase your revenue.
Let’s make some money!
