Sumo Gamer Review

 

 

Sumo refers to their gaming bean bags as “The Best Video Game Chair Ever!” So the question is, is it really? How does it hold up? Is it worth all the coin it’s going to cost you? Hopefully I’ll answer all those questions for you here. And of course, if I’m missing anything or you are curious about anything, please feel free to leave your response in the comment section below.

A couple weeks ago a giant box from Sumo arrived over at my house and I was so excited to see it. See, I’m not new to Sumo, and if you have ever attended a PAX, you shouldn’t be either because their bags are everywhere there. What you see at PAX though is the same one that Scott reviewed earlier this year, their Omni beanbag chair. I’ve seen that one, I’ve used that one, I’ve really liked that one. It’s a great buy and it’s just so comfortable. This however, was my first time that I’ve ever seen their Sumo Gamer, and ever used it.

The very first thing you will notice about the Sumo Gamer is that it is absolutely HUGE! The box that this bag came in could easily fit my entire family of 3, and that was with them using some crazy compression as well because this thing was a serious bitch to take out of the box. Once it was out of the box, you could just hear the bag sucking up as much air as it could and just growing in size. Just to show everyone how big this chair really is, below you will see a picture of it with my three and a half year old daughter in it. She can literally get lost in this bag.

 

 

So how does it feel? It really feels like the most comfortable gaming chair that I’ve ever been in, they are not lying with their motto. It feels great. I just sink right into it and I can play for hours without getting sore or uncomfortable. If you don’t believe me, this arrived when Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 did. All of the time I spent getting up to level 70, I spent in this chair, and I loved every minute of it. And now that Skyrim is out, I have no need or desire to get out of this chair.

Now what’s left is how does it hold up? This is my only issue with this chair, after using it for a couple hours, you will probably have to smack it around a bit to reset it. Especially if your daughter has been jumping onto this bag from the couch (don’t ask me where she got the idea but she really loved to do that) for a little while, or catapulting her toys (ok, I’m guilty of showing her that) with it. The bag that goes into the cover can and probably will move around a bit, and it’s really a pain in the ass to get it back in it’s proper place. It’s not that it’s really hard to do, but it takes some time because you have to smack it, pull it, and twist it around a bit to really reset it. It took me about five minutes or so to do this; I just really wanted it to be perfect again. If you don’t reset it, the bag just doesn’t feel right, and you won’t have the support from the bag where you want it.

Overall though, I have to agree with Sumo, this really is the best gaming chair that I have ever used. Is it worth the $200 price tag? Well that’s completely up to you and your budget; I can say that I’ve never felt better while gaming. It’s not cheap, but at the same time, it’s so nice. I’d recommend this bag to any of my personal friends that might be looking for a chair. Without question, it just really feels so damn good.
